My Granddad doesn’t like change. That’s putting it mildly. He hates it if the TV controller is put on the wrong-arm rest, and he practically yells the house down if it gets put there the wrong way around before his favourite TV show is about to start. But it isn’t just Granddads up and down the country who don’t like change, of course, we’re all guilty of it. Think about it: when was the last time you met someone who was constantly changing their attitude to life? And we all know why this is: we like it when things are familiar and comfortable and safe, and so it isn’t really surprising that so many people find it hard to make steps in a different direction, out of their comfort zone towards something altogether new. This is what the following article is all about, except in a more energy-efficent kind of a way. If you’re thinking about getting more energy efficient and changing the way you live in terms of trying not to pollute our great atmosphere as much then you should have a read if the Enigin Blog.
Another factor which gets in the way with us humans is sentimentality. That old kettle you own, the crap completely not-energy-efficient one, why don’t you throw it out? Well because its like an old friend, isn’t it? It’s been there with you through the hard times, providing you with tea when you were down and coffee when you were up, and throwing it away just seems…oh…a bit cruel if you ask me. But change can be good, and if you’re going to do it then why not make the world a greener place in the process?

I used to be one of those people who complained about going on the bus. “The people you get on the bus are never less than freakish and odd and scary for a girl!” I would say. Or, when I was feeling more creative in my hatred, “the screechy-scraping of the twigs and branches on the sides of the bus as we pass round country lanes feels me with a feeling of profound dread which I then carry with me for the rest of the day and when I am extremely unfortunate, weeeeeek!”

Now I have changed my mind. After several weeks of being forced on to the bus – the car is bust – I have finally found why going on the bus is a fantastic thing.

It’s simple: there is always someone worse off than you and guess what? you will probably find them on the bus. There are rules to follow, of course, you can’t just sit anywhere. This is an art, not just something you can do without thinking.

Sit on the ground floor of the bus, preferably near the front. The people who moan the most (“I’m considering a face-lift but I’m not sure…we had an accident with kerosene heating oil the last time I had face-lifts on my mind…it seems I am cursed every time I think about having a face-lift…”) are often the ones who sit near the front. The top of the bus is reserved for teenagers who still think it’s cool to ride up there, and people who, for some odd reason, do not want to hear depressing moaning on their way to / from work. They don’t know what they’re missing!

Take out your music. There is no way you can truly appreciate the blissful sound of other people’s misfortune unless you are fully open to hear it!

Why not, if you are feeling brave, add your misfortune to the mix? Combine yours with their and you will almost certainly feel a hundred times better and more happier about life for getting that off your chest!

Sitting all day at home doesn’t do any good to my health. On the other hand, outdoor activities make me feel active and creative. There are people who hate to engage in outdoor recreation and I am certainly not one of them. If I could sell my home here in the city and move to the countryside right now I would.

Moving out of the four walls of my house exposes me to fresh air and pumps me up with renewed energy. It works like a therapy and is one of the cheapest and most effective ones. Outdoor activities make my life fun and enjoyable. Breathing fresh air prevents me from various harmful diseases, thereby helping me save money.

It has been scientifically proved that, in spite of the threat of getting skin cancer exposure to the sun helps to make the bones dense. The sun rays transfer Vitamin D into our body, which helps in the calcification of the bones. Exposing myself to fresh air helps me get rid of all the impurities that I may have inhaled indoors.

When I engage in outdoor activities like shopping or playing games with my family or friends, I unconsciously reenergize my bonds with them. Talking to my friends over the phone makes me feel happy, but those moments spent with my friends when we hang out or go on a holiday are worth a lifetime memory.

These activities make me more intelligent and improve my thinking ability. I get to hone my skills in the games that I like. There are a number of interesting activities that outdoors has got for me- skateboarding, skiing, gardening, cycling, swimming, hiking, jogging and many more.

Most importantly, I never miss a chance to appreciate the beauty of Mother Nature. This gives me a sort of rejuvenating and memorable experience.

I was at work yesterday and it can get a bit slow near the end of the day so I often check BBC news online to catch up with what’s happening in the world. Obviously I’d rather go on facebook but we’re only allowed certain websites in my office! I suppose it’s fair enough but it can get a bit frustrating as so many of my friends have facebook access where they work. Anyway, I saw this photo and news story on BBC news online which really made me smile. It’s a lad in Scotland (but I don’t know if he’s Scottish) who’s been appearing on Google Street View in a horses head! He always wears dark trousers and a purple shirt and it’s just such a bizarre image it really brightened up my day!

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/north_east_orkney_and_shetland/10401345.stm

Seriously check it out! Apparently he’s become quite a popular attraction and the BBC want to know who he is. I love stories like that, when someone does something just for the hell of it and just for fun. Talking of fun, I’m off to Brighton this weekend to go to the beach! I can’t wait, especially as I’ve never been to Brighton before, so I’m off to the shops to buy a summer beach bag and some sun tan lotion. I might get some fake tan too as my legs could do with it. I’ve got to cover up my varicose veins on my legs, my friend’s say I’m imagining them but I’m sure I’ll need varicose vein surgery one day!

I can’t say I always find London easy and lately I’ve been missing Cheshire. Sometimes it’s so hectic here and I don’t think I’ll ever enjoy rush hour, especially at the moment. It’s so hot that men are even sweatier on the tubes than normal and every day this week I had the dillema of which shoes would be best in the tubes. I’m normally a heels girl, but my feet must have swelled up two sizes in the heat so they tend to feel really tight. Trainers are a no go for obvious reasons. I may be working in a big city but Working Girl I am not! So I’m left with flip flops, which is more dangerous than it sounds. Yesterday I saw a girl loose her flip flop down the gap between the train and the platform. She must have had to hop her way home! Poor thing. Of course it’s even harder to get a seat on the tubes as well because everyone is so exhausted from the heat that those people who would’ve happily stood up now can’t wait to sit down and faint in to their seats. It makes you drowsy too. Yesterday I slept the whole way on the Northern line, missed my stop and ended up at the end of the line. I had a bump on my head too from where my head kept banging in to the hand rail. I think I need a travel pillow in future! On the upside though the good weather means that I’ve been spending lots of time in beer gardens and generally having fun and hanging out with friends and people from work. Is there anyone other than me who doesn’t have an Apple iPhone in this city?! For ages I thought I wouldn’t get one because otherwise I’d never be off it, but I think I may have to cave in.
