How to market things online!
Here I am, it’s me again, and what gems of wonder do I have in store for you on this fine day? Well, don’t get too excited, because they’re not the kind of gems which discuss shoe shopping or dating Mr Right. But that’s not to say that they’re boring, because they are not!
So here, then, are my top tips on how to market things online – it’s all from my own experience and I want others to learn from my pit-falls!
1) Be prepared for anything: let’s take an example of a product that isn’t exactly stupendously exciting – cleaning chemicals that a company wants me to market online on Facebook and Twitter. OK, so it won’t be the most incredible thing people have ever seen, but that shouldn’t ever get in the way of your ability to get people interested. And now the second point…
…don’t go overboard on the links! Links are the internet marketer’s best friend, but they can also become the customer’s enemy…
2) Use fun language and describe things: when marketing on Facebook pages and Status’s and the like, you really need to use inventive ways to catch people’s attention. Focus on the benefits of a product rather than the obvious things. So, in the case of these chemicals I am marketing, I might decide to invent a female super hero to represent the product. That way, whenever people see the logo featuring the kick-ass woman, they will smile and already be interested in the product without me even trying.
3) Don’t bombard your audience: stick to posting Twitter tweets and Status’s up at set times…say, three times a week at the same time each time. This will have a dramatic effect, as the people seeing the posts will associate them with their daily schedule. This is a good thing. Many people like the idea of structure, and by adding a fun side to this you are also giving something which means they may even look forward to reading your posts.
4) Short articles and posts are much better than long ones, and don’t go overboard on the links! Links are the internet marketer’s best friend, but they can also become the customer’s enemy if you go too crazy with them. Focus on a link in every paragraph, and try not to break this rule. Also remember that you never, ever what your reader to have to lunge for the dictionary. Use language that people do every day and you’ll be onto a good thing!
