Humphrey Ker – review
Last month I ventured out with a group of friends of mine to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. While we were there we caught a glimpse of Humphrey Ker. No the fringe festival is supposed to be the place where you will find those off the beaten path performers who are unique in their own way. So when I saw his performance I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was and wondered how come he is not a mainstream comedian.

It was good for my friends to leave their English teaching jobs to get away and see Humphrey Ker, a comedian and actor, best known as a member of a comedy troupe named “The Penny Dreadfuls”. The first time he came on the stage in the sketch comedy that was based in World War II and as the lead character that was believed to be based on his very own grandfather, he take over the room and command the stage.
The sketch merely relates to real life and looks more terrific thanks to the Humphrey Ker’s terrific performance. Ker also looks amazing as the lantern-jawed hero who is clad in khaki who addresses everyone in the clipped tone iconic of the 1940s. He further moves on to discuss his six feet tall sweetheart named “Joanie”.
The jeopardy is further fuelled as the young Dymock eventually parachutes into Romania, with the intention to sabotage an atom-bomb factory owned by the Nazis. All he takes along is a magician’s costume and Uncle Trevor, a dog. Fortunately Ker is a superb storyteller and he does an amazing job in moving between clips and the ever changing characters. In any case, he does a wonderful job of captivating his audience and making sure that everyone has a good time. Next year we shall certainly look out for more surprises.
