Getting used to the tubes in the heat wave!
I can’t say I always find London easy and lately I’ve been missing Cheshire. Sometimes it’s so hectic here and I don’t think I’ll ever enjoy rush hour, especially at the moment. It’s so hot that men are even sweatier on the tubes than normal and every day this week I had the dillema of which shoes would be best in the tubes. I’m normally a heels girl, but my feet must have swelled up two sizes in the heat so they tend to feel really tight. Trainers are a no go for obvious reasons. I may be working in a big city but Working Girl I am not! So I’m left with flip flops, which is more dangerous than it sounds. Yesterday I saw a girl loose her flip flop down the gap between the train and the platform. She must have had to hop her way home! Poor thing. Of course it’s even harder to get a seat on the tubes as well because everyone is so exhausted from the heat that those people who would’ve happily stood up now can’t wait to sit down and faint in to their seats. It makes you drowsy too. Yesterday I slept the whole way on the Northern line, missed my stop and ended up at the end of the line. I had a bump on my head too from where my head kept banging in to the hand rail. I think I need a travel pillow in future! On the upside though the good weather means that I’ve been spending lots of time in beer gardens and generally having fun and hanging out with friends and people from work. Is there anyone other than me who doesn’t have an Apple iPhone in this city?! For ages I thought I wouldn’t get one because otherwise I’d never be off it, but I think I may have to cave in.
